I'm still searching ... the hard part is waiting for a response. Sometimes all you get is an auto reply (if even that), and then nothing. It would be good if companies would at least let applicants know when the position has been filled!! Which is one reason why I think the gurulink site is cool. I recently had the distinct pleasure of dealing with Mr. Brad McIntosh of Gurulink.ca in my search for a suitable position. Although the search has not yet concluded I want to highlight the excellent service I have received.

I'm glad to attest that GuruLink falls in a very small minority of recruiters who is diligent in keeping potential candidates like myself updated on the status of one's application for a particular position.

One would think that this is common industry practice, and indeed common business sense. Lately I have been dealing with numerous other recruiters in other agencies and I can also attest that this is absolutely not the case. Often there is not even an acknowledgement of receipt of an application. It makes me shake my head in disbelief.

NYC is awesome and I feel lucky to be here. I have biked NYC and Jersey city far and wide: Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island. I probably walked every avenue in Manhattan between downtown and the Central Park, and all the famous streets. Manhattan is a treasure trove of architecture old and new. My impression is that the people here in NYC are more forward and less reserved than in TO. And they are more interested in politics.

I have to put some work into establishing a social circle in the city as until now I have been awed by the city's architecture, numerous bridges, rivers, and the Ocean (getting married to an American woman for instance!) In my next vacation I will rent a car and drive around in NY state. Work-wise, I am still doing Tibco-based systems. Hopefully I will get a chance to go back to J2EE by the end of the contract, though it is likely to be extended.

I received an email from The Game Changer, that's what I call Jason Clancy at Gurulink. You know when you see that job posting and say I could do that if I just got the opportunity. Well the game changer sent me that job posting for a senior position in field I hadn't worked at in a very long time.
I was hesitant to return Jason's email because I had interviewed with a few large agencies - prior to Jason's email - that would not consider me for similar positions. I thought I would humour Jason and send him my resume. Jason contacted me immediately, asked if I was interested, and told me I could fulfill the requirements of the position.
