Ruby on Rails Developer (Contract)

Job Description

As a Sr. Ruby on Rails Developer you will be involved in all stages of developing the product. You'll create new product ideas and help guide the product roadmap, spec out what the next generation will look like, and implement it yourself. •Must quickly ramp up to understand the product while maintaining and improving the existing codebase
•Will be responsible for contributing to the architecture and development of existing highly trafficked (6M+ current registered users) and scalable web based software using Ruby
•Work as part of a larger technology team committed to best practices and implementing cutting edge solutions
•Detail oriented with ability to learn and apply new technical concepts quickly
•Organizational ability to work in a fast paced environment with shifting priorities
•Natural collaborator and communicator with a sense of humor who prefers developing in a team environment

•Expertise with Ruby on Rails: Merb an asset
•Full stack proficiency: client-side through the persistence layer
•SQL proficiency: MySQL preferred
•Design and development of web based APIs using Ajax and JSON is a strong asset
•Experience in using and administrating *nix based OS environments
•Experience in test driven development and a Ruby on Rails based test framework
•Proficiency with HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, and Ajax
•Experience with version control software: Git preferred
•Experience working in an agile development environment
•Must be able to demonstrate ability to work independently with minimal supervision
•Nice to haves include Sphinx, Nginx, NodeJS, AjaxIM, Mobile development

Education Required
•Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
•Minimum 3 years experience developing and maintaining heavily used web applications in Rails
•Knowledge of software engineering and computer science fundamentals
