Sr. Manager, Big Data Architecture

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Big Data Innovation, this role will collaborate with Business, IT and external stakeholders to identify and implement the strategic portfolio of Big Data platforms and solutions.

Responsibilities:
- Develop a 2-year DM&T Big Data Architecture strategy and implementation roadmap
- Develop a business case for the DM&T Big Data strategy in collaboration with IT, Network and Business
- Collaborate with various vendor partners to identify appropriate technology requirements
- Define overall cost of implementation, including hardware, software, and labour
- Partner with the Business, IT and Network stakeholders to develop and refine Big Data use cases with clearly defined business drivers/benefits
- Collaborate with various IT, Business and Network groups to identify and develop interface points with relevant data sources;
- Lead cross-functional team to fully implement solutions by leveraging iterative, quick-to-market methodologies
- Provide management oversight to 3rd party System Integrators in their fulfillment of contractual obligations including financials, staffing commitment, T&E, SLA agreements, etc.
- Provide guidance and training to team members on the architecture, deployment, optimization and tuning of advanced Hadoop development tools and frameworks based on industry best practices and design patterns
- Influence the development and enforce application of Hadoop Big Data architecture design patterns based on industry best practices
- Manage direct reports and provide ongoing coaching on both technology and collaboration topics
- Maintain detailed documentation as required by SDLC
- Evolve Big Data platform, analytical and data management tools.
- Partner with key vendors to bring appropriate products to bear in the fulfillment of Big Data use cases
- Ensure SW currency and adherence to a defined migration plan
- Provide guidance and training to team members on the deployment, optimization, and tuning of advanced Hadoop development tools and frameworks based on industry best practices and design patterns
- Maintain detailed documentation as required by SDLC


Must Have Skills:

- A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field
- Hadoop 2.0 Developer, Administrator or an equivalent certification
- 3+ years of production experience managing cross-functional project teams clients, developers, solutions design, production support, 3rd parties and vendors
- 1+ years of Production experience managing Big Data environments, development or architecture teams
- 1+ years of production experience managing Hadoop application architecture, development, installations, performance tuning, configuration, and optimization
- 1+ years of production experience designing and deploying Hadoop core components and services: HDFS, YARN, Hive, Pig, HBase, Spark, Sqoop, Falcon, Oozie, etc.
- Strong background in Business Intelligence and production experience with Data warehousing projects and programs
- Production experience and excellent understanding of Data Warehousing lifecycle principles and best practices
- Production experience and excellent understanding of Software Development Lifecycle principles and best practices
- Production experience and in-depth understanding of Hadoop Big Data ecosystem and best practices (Hortonworks is preferred)
- Experience working with virtualized and physical environments, including public and private cloud
- Experience in Telecommunication industry would be an asset
- Experience with Analytics, Predictive Modeling, Machine learning applications would be an asset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Highly motivated and very proactive individual, dedicated to follow-up/follow-through without reliance on management for direction
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
